ARNAB-GOSWAMI

Dear Arnab Goswamy,

This is an open letter to you from one of your ardent fan. Let me take you to a flash back first. it was in 2004, National film awards were about to announce. Stiff competition was on for best actor award between chocolate boy Saif Ali khan and vetaran actor Mammootty. Saif in ‘Hum Tum’, versus Mammootty in ‘kazhcha’.. You don’t have to see both the movies, hust the trailor is enough to decide whom should be given the award. When announced it was Saif Ali khan, no wonder ‘Sharmila Tagore’ was the Jury.. It reminded of Shashi kapoor dialogue.. ‘Mere pas mama hein’.. Even bollywood was shell shocked to hear, best actor award for saif??

Why I reminded you all these is because of an event I watched in your esteemed channel, Times Now. The hon. president was giving away awards to winners of 61st National Film awards. As a proud malayali I was waiting to see one of the best actor awardee Mr. Suraj receiving it from the president. Sadly your channel decided yo edit that part out. Where as the co-awardee for best actor, Rajkumar Rao was shown repeatedly, and even his response was telecasted. Suraj was not visible even in one frame. Is that you and other north indian media jealous of south indian film industry, which kept bagging the awards through Sivaji Ganesan to Kamal hassan to Mammootty to Mohanlal? or is that because Mr. Suraj looks dark and don’t have a six-pack tummy? I understand the fear of bollywood, which is sustaining it’s business by mostly remaking south indian films these days. What your channel has done today to please bollywood, and north indian lobby is clear case of regionalism, and even racism. Malayalees are not going to forgive you for this, we demand an apology from you.

Dear Mr. Goswamy, I have been an ardent fan of you. I adored your arrogance and debates with proofs forcing all others bend their head in front of you. But today, If I asked you why you edited out a south indian actor, while showing co-awardee in detail, you and your channel will have to put you head down is shame!!

Your fan, Pratheep Modathara.

  1. Castism and racism is always a topic for heated discussion. As I see it, and I could be wrong as well, but in this case, we should note a point that times now is a north Indian channel and their viewers sould like to see actors from their region to bag the prizes. No one is interested in watching an other state personal winning it instead. Since it is national media, they should have broadcasted it, but again its their decision to air it or not. They might have thought that as it is non sensational and a compared to be a lesser audience will be interested in watch it in the news, they simply have edited it off. But again, it is just me and I could be wrong.

  3. South or north, its no matter he is an Indian. Now we discriminate people according to region within a country. then what about other countries?

  4. When announced it was Saif Ali khan, no wonder ‘Sharmila Tagore’ was the Jury.. It reminded of Shashi kapoor dialogue.. ‘Mere pas mama hein’.. Even bollywood was shell shocked to hear, best actor award for saif?? haha…

  5. if times now think that southern states are not part of india, they are living in fools paradise. i think, southern states should reciprocate by banning this channel in south india until times now apologizes for this high headed foolish act.

  7. Arnab Goswami has never been a great journalist in my eyes..one of the worst isteners..he just wants to impose his ideas during the ‘so called debates’..and he wants everybody to speak the way he wants

  9. very much unfortunate ! Even westerners think Indian cinema is all about Bollywood. I have got frustrated many times trying to explain that, Indian Cinema is not all about Bollywood. North Indian fraternity is well aware that best skills are available down south. Some media despots are responsible for this.

  10. Its saddening that our media, who are suppose to be the agents of nationalism and empower India as a nation acts in such manner. Analyzing with it the recent events that people from north east had to face, it underlines the fact that we are still a NATION IN THE MAKING…

  11. todays media is nothing but an organization which fabricates and presents truth in different dimensions so as to ensure its own economical goals which may be at times far away from the usual social duties of media…..so never trust medias on what they show …the fabricated stuff……thats what social media is for i guess….

  12. Arnab was very vocal and even got emotional when Nido, an Arunachal boy who was died due to an assault on him by north Indians in Delhi recently. It was a case of racial discrimination. In one of the discussions after that incident Arnab got emotional and said “I am also a north easterner so I do understand the discrimination the people from the north east are subject to in rest of the country”. The same Arnab who was so big mouthed as always against regional discrimination did this to the south Indians is unbelievable..! As the editor of the Times Now Channel who smells rat at the drop of a hat should own up the responsibility and also owe an apology to the people of south India for.shamelessly removing the south Indian national awardees clips from the video that was telecast on the day national award was given away. These people all have double standards. they speak one thing and do the opposite without any qualms.

  13. When i keep hearing this north and south regionalism i wonder since m from kolkata, thankfully atleast m not part of this as geographically m from east.Cumon guys we must stop dividing country on region atleast coz religion we cudn;t for years. There are many bengali actors in kolkata who are superstars for us but ignored by national media and bolywood. Malyali, tamil film industry has immense reputation and respect not only in india but in the world. But again bolywood is geting a preference over other language oriented movies. Now imagine bolywood is based out of mumbai and marathi movies are not recognized well. Its us who created this bolywood, its us who made them stars.Hence now wats d point in cribbing bout a recognition by them ???? We cant name it regionalism, may be its now family tree rule which is creating diffrence, like sharmila / saif , roshan’s , khan’s,bachan’s , etc .. m sure once anybody else goes and build’s a tree lik dat they wil give preference to their offsprings. Hence lets support our stars from which evr state we belong and we dont need a certifcate from Bolywood or any media for any stars that we follow ! BUT LETS JUST SAY UNITED INDIA !!!

  14. But are we malayalis any better… I have been watching malayalam news to see the coverage of elections on malayalam channels, but after our polling was over, our channels have mostly ignored what is happening in rest of India. As far as we are concerned the rest of India might as well be in mars. To us north Indians are just bhais, gosais just basically sub human. Times Now didnot show Suraj but channels skimmed over all non malayali awards.
Besides why should it bother us about what they do, let them live in their squalor and ignorance while we run the Indian Space Pragramme , win awards and do just better than all North Indians put together….

  15. its pathetic !!! This is exactly how the Westerners look down on us…For them, Both south and North Indians are dark-skinned, egotistical and naive. And Mr.Goswami , you are still an offspring of third grade Euro-concubine legacy…(go to hell with your Aryan ideology)

  16. It is worth noting that Times Now is an ‘Entertainment Channel’ as per its official license – not a News Channel. As a private network, it is entitled to frame the news the way it wants with an explicit aim to attain top TRP ratings, and to broadcast it to the market it sees as top pickings. It seems Times Now, being primarily geared towards an urban, northern Indian audience, decided to do what was in line with its corporate aims. There is little wrong with this in strict legal terms, but it is clear that this channel got it wrong on principles (and media ethics) this time round. As a malayali myself, I would not take this frankly minuscule episode as an existential question of my status within India or as an Indian – both Times Now and Arnab Goswamy – and by extension other bigots – are simply too small and unimportant for me to question matters so basic. It has probably been established beyond doubt that Times Now and Arnab Goswamy have an ingrained regional bias, which is against the interests of the Indian nation. So, in the best of intentions, it is best to deny them the stage to peddle their filth as and when possible, and simply watch something else! That is the best bit about an open Indian journo market. Ironically, I’ve never watched Times Now myself, and an associate was recommending the channel – no longer do I need to make my mind up! Something to cheer the Malayalis up – I watched this programme called ‘Pradhamantri’ on ABP News via Youtube, hosted by Shekhar Kapoor – far more successful, and much more of a gentleman than Arnab or Times Now – and it highlights the key role played by Malayalis right through the history of independent India – from VP Menon through to MS Swaminathan to V Kurien. The message is – I suppose – leave the bigots to what they do best, for there is adequate space for sensible people.

  17. i realised dhanush won the national award on the same year as salim kumar had won but the media where only only showing salim kumar it was later i realised that dhanush had also won it doesnt mean they are rascist they are just palin stupid and dont get me started with these awards they all riggedd u have to pay 50,000 to nominate better awards ther have been many times that hindi actors havent won awards when they actually deserved shut the fuckk up and get alife

  18. folks… m an Indian first… born in Northern India….n after following all news channels since the i was 12 (now 24).. one thing that i found common in all… was that for them NCR is the Indian Boundary….if a businessman is being murdered in Noida…thats a national news in no time….but if a MLA from AP(late Mrs. Shobha Nagireddy ) dies in a road crash….they dont bother and continue to cover THE NARENDRA MODI Road show @ Varanasi……This Electronic media(especially) is no more the fourth pillar of democracy…BUT THE “”SMALL PILLAR HANGING”” BETWEEN MY LEGS……shame on You all news channels…

  19. Even after 67 years its strange 2 see the media house are following same pattern as our leaders following” dalit’upper cast’s south India, north India, minority, telengana,Martha, reservation bla bla ”

  20. I endorse it 100%. I used to watch the News Prime Time show with Arnab Goswami every day and admire his non biased strong comments across the board on all subjects under the sun. But this act of omitting a co- national lawardee from the news and frame itself, is totally uncalled for and unexpected from the desk of Mr.Goswami. It is very pathetic to use the word regionalism to you simply because, you always argued at the top of your voice against any such comments from any panelists during the discussions in the studio. My anguish will become a startling realisation of what it is, when the next day morning , when I got the Times of India News Paper in my hand. It carried the other best actor and actress’s photo and excluded the photo of the co-awardee and also not even mentioned his name in the associated printed news material either. It is can’t be simply considered as an error, it is purely the way journalism is happening in our country and very disturbing to note NO ONE is an exception! Mr.Arnab Goswami really saddened by this attitude.
